Automotive Radiator Overheating Causes and Cures

Overheating is a major concern as far as the automotive radiator is concerned. It can arise due to various reasons, and this issue can even be fixed by a few easy steps.

Causes of automotive radiator overheating:
Overheating can take place due to any of the following mentioned reasons.  Automotive radiator manufacturer and users are well-versed and familiar with these issues.
  • Lack of a controlled and good airflow through the automotive radiator
  • A faulty or non-functioning fan clutch or electric fan
  • A coolant with low cooling capacity
  • Coolant leakage
  • A non-functioning thermostat
  • A loss of proper conductivity of heat within the engine. This issue mainly arises due to deposits or accumulations in the water jackets
  • A faulty water pump impeller
  • Any issues with the existing radiator cap
Basically, automotive radiator overheating can occur by virtue of anything and everything that fails to dissipate or transport heat throughout the system.

Cures of automotive radiator overheating:

The word ‘overheating’ itself explains that your automotive radiator needs to cool down, as basic cure. So therefore, look for ways which can help keep it cool. Remember that heat always flows from a higher temperature to a lower temperature. Hence, some of the methods that can be used are as follows:
  • Coolant: Make sure you keep a coolant in contact with your radiator always. The presence of a cooler liquid enveloping your radiator is more than enough to keep its temperature under check. Every automotive radiator manufacturer must consider this important side.
  • Thermostat: A thermostat is another good way of keeping a track of the optimum temperature of your automotive radiator system. Invest in a good quality thermostat for a stable and a durable performance, but don’t forget to keep running checks to ensure its proper functioning, especially after an episode or two your automotive radiator overheating.
  • Cooling fans: Cooling fans are a great and affordable way of curing overheating problem in the system. But make sure that the fun clutch is in place, since overheating issues mainly arise due to a faulty fan clutch.
  • Hoses and belts: This aspect may seem unimportant. But is not so. Keep an eye on your belts and hoses since any slips may cause improper functioning of the fan or water pump, resulting in overheating.
